The procedure is carried out under local anesthesia. You may feel a brief pinch during the initial numbing injections, but once active, the scalp is completely numb and pain-free. Patients typically listen to music, watch movies, or nap comfortably during the session. Mild postoperative tenderness is easily managed with standard mild pain relief medications.
Both techniques extract individual follicular units without leaving a linear scar. In FUE, recipient channels are cut with micro-sapphire blades and then grafts are placed. In DHI, grafts are loaded into a specialized Choi implanter pen and inserted directly into the skin without pre-making channels, offering enhanced control over acute angles and allowing implantation between existing hairs.
A typical session takes between 5 to 8 hours depending on the graft count required. The day includes donor harvesting, a comfortable meal and rest break, and precision recipient implantation.
Between weeks 2 and 6, transplanted hairs naturally shed due to the physiological shock loss phase. New hair emergence starts around months 3 to 4. Visible aesthetic density becomes evident at month 6, with full mature density and texture realized at 12 months post-procedure.
